Our Story
A Little History Behind The Wood Pit Bar-B-Q Our family started in the barbeque business in 1970 on Buckner Blvd. It was Sam's Bar-B-Q, run by my parents, Sam & Christina Velis. Pete and Ann opened The Wood Pit in 1977, and have been serving the best Bar-B-Q there is to offer ever since.
Our meats are cooked daily offering you the finest quality, cut, grade, and freshness. Our beef is cooked to perfection, sliced, and topped with our own "Special Barbeque Sauce" and sliced and chopped in front of you. We specialize in trimming off as much of the fat and brown as possible, unless you specify otherwise. We do not serve you ready made chopped beef that sits in its own grease and barbeque sauce all day. Our other meat entrees are Sausage, Ham, Turkey, Hot Links, and Ribs cooked daily. Our Pinto Beans, Cole Slaw, and Potato Salad are made daily to give you the freshest quality. Our desserts are Banana Pudding and Peach Cobbler, which are also homemade.
We are a family owned and operated business trying to give you the best service possible with family atmosphere. We are also teaching our children the family business and you will find them working there too.
